Rahway fire destroys 2 homes, injures resident and 4 cops
RAHWAY — Investigators say a fast-moving fire that destroyed two homes and injured four police officers and a resident appears to have been an accident.
City fire officials say the blaze started around 4:15 a.m. Saturday in a two-family home on Paterson Street. It soon spread to the attic of a neighboring single-family home.
Three police officers were treated for smoke inhalation. But another officer and a resident were hospitalized for burns suffered in the fire.
Authorities say roughly 12 people were displaced by the fire.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
