Wednesday looks like a nice, warm, sunny, breezy early summer day across the Garden State, but Thursday turns wet and stormy once again.

Here are your weather headlines for Wednesday, June 22, 2016...

Quiet Wednesday

Following Tuesday's ferocious thunderstorms, New Jersey deserves a tranquil weather day. And today is that day, as high pressure delivers mostly to partly sunny skies and a taste of drier air on Wednesday.

The day is starting a bit muggy with patchy fog in South Jersey, but the northern half of the state is comfortable and non-humid. Hopefully that humidity situation improves in the south as the day presses on. It's going to be seasonably warm and breezy Wednesday, as thermometers bump into the lower to mid 80s through the afternoon.

Wednesday evening and most of the overnight looks good too, even as clouds increase. One model shows an isolated shower in North Jersey around 10 p.m. Wednesday night. But that solution is an outlier - most of the impending rain should hold off until around daybreak on Thursday.

Wet Thursday

Yes, another soggy, stormy day is in the works for Thursday. Unlike Tuesday, which presented a big multifaceted severe weather threat (wind, hail, tornadoes), the big concern for Thursday will be widespread heavy rain leading to flooding. Models have painted rainfall totals as high as 4 inches in NJ on Thursday, with most forecasts settling on 1 to 2 inches.

The best chance for torrential rain will be Thursday morning and in South Jersey. Downpours may very well creep a bit north of I-195.

There is a slight risk of severe weather too, even though instability will be fairly limited. It would primarily be a wind threat. Again, the best chance will be from the strongest storms in South Jersey.

Expect it to rain for most of the day Thursday. If we get lucky, the rain will begin to taper off around early-to-mid afternoon.

Friday and the Weekend

High pressure returns to our atmosphere on Friday, and that spells very good news for the impending final weekend of June!

A lingering shower can't be ruled out early Friday morning, but skies should rapidly clear to sunshine. High temperatures will be quite pleasant, near 80 degrees. Winds will be light, and humidity will be manageable.

This fabulous forecast continues into the weekend as well. Saturday will be mostly sunny, with inland highs in the lower 80s (70s along the coast). Similar temperatures for Sunday, with a few more clouds. Monday looks dry too, before our next chance of thunderstorms on Tuesday.
