Prosecutors say a 7-year-old boy was sexually assaulted by an employee during a visit to a central New Jersey nursing home last weekend.

Thirty-three-year-old Michael Amante of Jersey City faces sexual assault and child endangerment charges.

Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey Soriano says the child and his mother were visiting the facility in Franklin Township when the boy went to use the bathroom around 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

The boy's mother told authorities that when she went to check on him, she saw Amante inappropriately touching him. She said Amante then fled from the bathroom when she confronted him.

A telephone number for Amante could not be located Monday. And authorities did not know if he had retained a lawyer.
