A New Jersey Senate panel is considering a bill that would end the free tolls, sports tickets and other perks that have sometimes been given to commissioners and staff with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

The bill being heard Monday by the Transportation Committee would impose new restrictions in the wake of reports of patronage and perks for Port Authority executives.

The measure also would eliminate overnight travel without prior written approval, curb expense allowances and end rental subsidies and reimbursements for personal vehicle travel.

The Assembly's Transportation Committee advanced the bill earlier this month.

New Jersey and New York would have to enact substantially similar legislation for the law to become effective at the bi-state agency.
