Prison for 2 road-rage drivers in fatal crash on Garden State Parkway

A driver involved in a deadly road-rage crash on the Garden State Parkway has been sentenced to nearly six years in prison.

Bergen County prosecutors say John Emili was driving Annetta Billingy from her Teaneck home to a church service in Spring Valley, New York, when the crash occurred in July 2012.

Authorities have said the 24-year-old New City, New York, man and another driver — Thomas Vanderweit, 31, of Saddle Brook — started speeding and tailgating each other for several miles.

Vanderweit eventually "brake-checked" Emili's vehicle, touching off a crash near Exit 168 in Washington Township that ejected the 63-year-old Billingy from his car.

A Bergen County jury convicted Emili in April on a vehicular homicide charge. He received a 66-month prison sentence on Friday.

Vanderweit also was found guilty of vehicular homicide and is serving a six-year sentence.

During the sentencing Friday in Superior Court in Hackensack, Emili's weeping mother asked the judge to "have mercy" for son.
