PRINCETON — Authorities say a Princeton woman awoke in her home to find herself being sexually assaulted with a man now in custody.

Princeton Police said Pedro Arias-Santiago, 26, a Guatemalan allegedly in the country illegally, sexually assaulted the woman early Wednesday morning. The 26-year-old woman ran out of her home and called police, who found Santiago outside with a few articles of her clothing when they arrived, police said.

Santiago was arrested and charged with aggravated sexual assault, burglary and theft. He is being held at the Mercer County Correction Center pending $200,000 bail.

The woman did not know Santiago, police said.

CentralJersey.com reported Santiago was living with his brother in an apartment on Lehigh Avenue. Princeton Police Commissioner Heather Howard told the news site that Santiago was in the country illegally and that Immigration and Customs Enforcement was notified.
