JCP+L Expects Most Customers To Be Restored By Saturday Night

JCP+L expects to have most of its 168,000 customers still without power as a result of both Sandy and the Nor’easter to be restored by Satruday night. 

The utility credits the addition of 1200 line workers today to make it possible. Some customers with wires that need to be replaced to their home will get power by Sunday night. And on the barrier islands, where restorations didn’t get underway until today, service will not return until next week.

The utility yesterday said those who lost power during the Nor’easter to not get service back until sometime next week.

PSE+G reports 55,000 customers still in the dark: 33,600 still out from Sandy and another 21,700 from this week’s Nor’easter.They utility expects “99.5 percent of remaining customers by midnight tonight.”

“There may be some customers whose restoration will extend into the weekend, depending on the amount of repairs that need to be done. The utility and out-of-state crews will continue to work around the clock until the last customer is back in service,” said the utility in a statement.

Since service restoration began, PSE&G has replaced at least 2,500 poles and 1,000 transformers, as well as cut down 41,000 trees, to repair widespread damage from the hurricane.

Officials have been increasingly critical of the utility. Belmar Mayor Matt Doherty said in a press release, “We have had multiple conversations with administrators at JCP&L and we have seen bucket trucks throughout town for days, but with limited results.  Belmar’s residents are cold, tired and frustrated.  I am encouraging our residents to call JCP&L at 888-544-4877 until the borough has power.”

Washington Township Mayor Ken Short in a statement published by the Patch of Long Valley said, “It is very unfortunate that much of the information provided to me by JCP&L is incorrect” regarding restoration efforts.

Governor Christie in a press conference in Somerset said he expects the state to have its power fully restored by early Sunday,
