A post-storm cleanup worker dies after attempting to stop traffic on Princeton Avenue in Brick Township Friday. Police say 69-year-old Paul Friedauer of Long Branch was struck by a 2004 Nissan Pathfinder and thrown 125 feet as he entered the intersection near Beaver Dam Road at around 8:20 a.m.

Police say the vehicle, operated by 42-year-old Karl Scheufler of Brick, was traveling westbound on Princeton Avenue when the incident occurred. Scheufler stopped his vehicle shortly after the impact.

Police say Friedauer was stabilized before being airlifted by MONOC-ONE to the Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where he later died. He worked for Glenside Equipment Company of Jackson as part of an ongoing post-storm cleanup operation on Princeton Avenue.

Police say the cause of the crash is still pending further investigation. Anyone with information surrounding the crash is asked to contact Traffic Safety Unit at 732-262-1140.
