Jersey residents are not exactly thrilled to hear the cash-strapped U.S. Postal Service is planning big cutbacks next spring- that will slow delivery of first-class mail.

Word that the Postal Service plans to close about half of their mail processing centers across the nation comes on top of the news that the cost of a mailing a letter will rise a penny starting next month.

“I think it’s absolutely ridiculous” said one woman heading to a post office in Middlesex County, “the service is bad as it is – and now they’re going to raise prices and cut service even more? That’s crazy!”

A young woman standing nearby shook her head in disgust.

“As it is I use email a lot right now” she said, “if you can send something faster and it’s free, why bother mailing a letter? I think they’re shooting themselves in the foot.”
