FAIR LAWN — An accused porch pirate removing deliveries from stoops in Bergen County was so engrossed in his work he didn't notice that a police officer was watching his every move.

The Daily Voice of Fair Lawn reported that Joshua Pacheco, 23, of Fair Lawn, had taken three packages as Officer Mark Wyka watched from an unmarked car.  Two officers called in as backup arrested Pacheco without incident.

Police said the packages were returned to their rightful owners.

Fair Lawn Police, as have many other departments, warned residents and businesses to take steps to protect package deliveries, especially during the holiday season. FedEx, UPS and the U.S. Postal Service allows customers to use their app to sign for packages or to request a signature.

Packages can be sent directly to a shipping service location for pick-up by the consumer at a later date. They can also be sent to an office or alternative location for delivery.
