Poll: Trust in Christie hits all-time low

NEWARK (AP) — New Jersey voters are increasingly suspicious of Gov. Chris Christie.

That's according to a Rutgers-Eagleton Poll out Thursday.

Pollsters found voters' trust in the Republican governor has continued to decline beyond an all-time low in March. Just 22 percent now say the word "trustworthy" describes the governor "very well," while nearly 40 percent say the trait no longer applies.

Fewer voters also rate Christie highly as a "strong leader," ''effective," and "fair."

The numbers have continued to slide since the George Washington Bridge scandal tarnished Christie's reputation. He's repeatedly denied any role in the scandal.

The poll of 734 registered voters was conducted from Sept. 29-Oct. 5. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.2 percentage points.
