Poll: New Jersey voters split on Christie

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- New Jersey voters remain split on Gov. Chris Christie. But they're pretty sure he's preparing to run for president in 2016.

A Rutgers-Eagleton poll out Tuesday finds Christie's job approval continues to hover just above 50 percent. Fifty-two percent of registered New Jersey voters say they approve of the job he's doing -- down slightly from April.

Christie fares worse on issues. Less than 50 percent approve of the way he's handling taxes, the state budget and pension funds.

But 57 percent expect Christie to run for president. And 48 percent believe his decisions on state issues, including whether to sign or veto bills, are more influenced by his potential candidacy than what's best for New Jersey.

The poll of 750 registered voters has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
