The day before Easter my cousin Jon Trevelise was run over by a distracted driver and later died on life support in Houston. That driver, Melissa Malen Smith, has been charged with manslaughter and is out of $40,000 bond. . A White “Ghost Bike” memorial sits near the road where Jon was hit. This was a man who raised tens of thousands of dollars for the Red Cross through cycling events. In fact Jon was training for a 500 mile race from Houston to New Orleans when he was hit.

In New York Jill Tarlov who was in town to buy a birthday present for her daughter, was allegedly hit by a cyclist in Central Park as she tried to cross the street. She died the following Monday morning.

These two contrasting stories show the dangers of cycling. How much of a problem have you had cycling in New Jersey? What group is more problematic in New Jersey? Cyclists or motorists?
