What if the Sayreville High School football players who saw their season canceled due to allegations of harassment, intimidation and bullying had a chance to get it back?

What if the players came forward to authorities with the truth about what happened, and those players involved were removed from the team. Would that be enough for the school superintendent to reinstate the season? Could that be enough to save the season? Would that not be a great teaching moment to the team of taking responsibility for their actions?

This team that kept silent about what was going on while it was going on, could come forward with the truth that could save the football program. This would enable those who were not involved but have a change to take their careers to the next level in college a change to continue their scholarship pursuit. This would enable the city of Sayreville , so rich in football tradition to have their game back.

As for what would happen to the culprits....we’re a very forgiving society and the fact that they came forward would go a long way as opposed to being found out as the result of an investigation.

Look at what happened in the National Football League “Bullygate” scandal.  Two of the three players involved, Jonathan Martin and John Jerry are back playing football while Richie Incognito is available for employment.

It was the Sayreville football team that got themselves into this mess with their silence and allowance of these things to go on. It’s up to that same team to get themselves out. If I were the captain, I would call a team meeting, then approach the school superintendent with the proposal.  I would also do it fast before somebody cracks and gives it up. Then all leverage is gone. No one wants the season to end like this, perhaps it doesn’t have to.

Do you think the Sayreville football season should be reinstated if the team stepped up and told the truth about what happened?
