I got my flu shot, I constantly wash my hands till they’re raw. All the things I’ve been told we need to do to prevent the spread of the dreaded Ebola virus – albeit minimal at best.

Yet last night, a West African passenger was sent to a University Hospital in Newark after showing symptoms or having a potential exposure to Ebola.

The governor, speaking at Hackensack University Medical Center, said the passenger and his wife will likely be released from University Hospital after meeting with CDC officials.

“There’s no indication at this point that he’s been infected with the virus,” Christie said.

However he’s taken a stand on West Africans traveling in the United States – something we’d yet to have heard from him.

He’s said the feds need to consider blocking West Africans from entering the United States – perhaps by suspending their visas – tossing the hot potato into the lap of the President.

“I think every step needs to be taken that can protect, reasonably, the public health of the people of the United States,” he said, adding. “It’s not a decision that can be made by the state of New Jersey. It’s a decision that has to be made by the president of the United States.”

Considering again that the virus, if what we hear is true, can only be caught by the transmission of bodily fluids from someone thought to be symptomatic – do you feel endangered?

I for one do not. However, while the Governor has issued calls for the public to not panic, I wonder now whether or not his call to suspend the visas of West Africans traveling into the US is a panicky move on his part; just a precaution; or a salvo in what will be his presumptive run for president.

Despite all the above – better safe than sorry.
