Clifton police say the crash on Route 3 occurred around 11:35 p.m. Sunday, just west of the Passaic Avenue exit.

It’s not yet known why the SUV driver, identified only as a 44-year-old Nutley woman, was traveling the wrong way on the highway. She was ejected from her vehicle during the crash and was treated at a hospital for undisclosed injuries.

The crash killed an 80-year-old Rutherford man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
