Forty-three-year-old Eugenio Morales was shot early Friday evening near Weymouth Road in Buena Vista according to the Daily Journal. When the officers approached him, he attacked them with a weapon and an officer shot him. He was flown to Cooper University Hospital in Camden.

Buena Borough Councilman and Public Safety Director Joseph Santagata said a passer-by recognized Morales' as he walked along Route 54 and notified two police officers in the Buena Vista High School parking lot on Friday afternoon.

The sound of bullets being fired in the area had neighborhood residents on edge before Morales was put down by police. "All you heard was the sound of bullets going off," one witness told WPVI TV.

Police had centered their search for Eugenio Morales in the Buena Vista area where his SUV was found after an unidentified Vineland woman was found slashed in the face, head, body and hands.

Morales and the woman argued in a parking lot where he stuck her so hard she fell to the ground according to the Daily Journal of Vineland.

Witnesses say Morales then went to his vehicle and got out the large machete and began his attack as several witnesses looked on. A woman threw a brick at Morales during the slashing; she didn't hit him but he stopped the attack and drove off.

A witness told the Daily Journal the machete had a blade the length of an arm, elbow to fingertips.
