Police in Atlantic County are asking for the public's help in identifying a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting in Atlantic City Tuesday.

According to authorities, the victim, a Newtonville man, was discovered after police responded to Hobart Avenue immediately following a Shotspotter Gunshot Detection and Location activation at 1:59 a.m.

When police arrived at the location they found a man who has been the victim of apparent gunshot wounds, according to a statement by Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain. The Newtonville man - whose name is being withheld as the investigation continues, was rushed to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center and pronounced dead at 11:49 a.m. Tuesday. the prosecutor said the autopsy is scheduled to take place Wednesday.

The shooting is being investigated by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Atlantic City Police Department. Authorities are asking anyone with at 609-909-7666, or the Atlantic City Police Department Investigations Division at 609-347-5766.
