Police probe if wind played role in fatal 7-story fall

Police are investigating whether powerful wind gusts played a role in the death of a man who fell off the roof of a seven-story office building in New Jersey on Tuesday.

Teaneck police say Clifford LeMay, 57, the building manager at the Glenpointe office complex, was found on the ground around 7 a.m.

LeMay had gone up to the roof to check for damage from the strong winds overnight, authorities said. But it's still not clear if he was blown off the roof and hit a tree in the fall.

Police say the death appears to be an accident and no foul play is suspected. LeMay was pronounced dead at the scene.

The National Weather Service recorded a peak wind gust in the area of 32 mph around the time of the accident.

David Sanzari, the president and CEO of the company that owns the complex, said he was "shocked and saddened" to learn of LeMay's death.

"He was highly regarded by all of us -- a person who was appreciated and loved by both our employees and tenants who knew him." Sanzari said in a statement issued Tuesday afternoon. "We are heartbroken to have lost an individual who has been part of our daily work life for more than four years."

The complex includes a hotel, offices and fitness center.
