Police say a homeless man walked into an Elizabeth church and attempted to grab a 4-year-old girl off her father's lap Sunday afternoon, according to NJ.com.

According to reports, 57-year-old Kevin Daniels of Elizabeth walked into the Mount Calvary United Church of God on 1st Street around 2:30 p.m. He then attempted to gran the girl's arm and remove her from the church, NJ.com reported. The father and Daniels struggled as other members of the church attempted to prevent him from taking the girl.

Daniels fled and was found on a porch on Pine Street, NJ.com reported. "When officers tried to arrest him, he resisted and assaulted them,"Elizabeth Police Capt. William Pinho told the website.

Following an investigation, Daniels was charged with "two counts of assault on police, resisting arrest, and possession of drug paraphernalia for a cut straw with a white, powdery residue inside." He was transported to Trinitas Medical Center's New Point facility for a psychiatric evaluation, according to reports.
