Pleasantville CFO Faces Official Misconduct Charge
Official misconduct charges have been filed against Pleasantville's chief financial officer, who allegedly stole thousands of dollars from the southern New Jersey town through a payroll scheme.
Ted Freedman, who also faces theft charges, turned himself in Wednesday to Atlantic County prosecutors and was later released on his own recognizance.
The 51-year-old Freedman has been a Pleasantville employee for 27 years.
Prosecutors say he submitted inaccurate timesheets for hours he didn't work to the city's paycheck provider and received a manual check. It's alleged he advanced himself several manual checks between March 2011 and last month, receiving more than $27,000.
Investigators say Freedman tried to pay back the money by making gross adjustments to his regular paychecks, but still owes more than $9,500.
Freedman could not be reached for comment.
