Rohit Maddineni of Plainsboro must serve roughly 2 ½ years of the term imposed Tuesday before becoming eligible for parole. He will also have to serve three years of supervised release once he's freed from prison.

The 26-year-old Maddineni had pleaded guilty in November to vehicular homicide charges.

Middlesex County prosecutors say the fatal crash occurred last March in South Brunswick.

Twenty-five-year-old Pavan Gottumukala of Edison, who was in a rear seat, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Maddineni and a 25-year-old front-seat passenger suffered only minor injuries.
