Pennsylvania fire claims life of South River college student
An Albright College student from South River who died in an off-campus fire on Saturday is being remembered as a "sweet kid."
Matthew Rein, a sophomore at the Reading, Pa. college, died in an early morning fire in the basement of a home where he and members of the swim team lived according to 69 News. 6 other people were in the home at the time of the fire; 2 were hospitalized and four were able to get out on their own by jumping out a window reports WGAL TV which says a burst water pipe helped to put out the flames.
Matthew's father David recalls his son to NJ.com as "a parent's dream, even as a little boy. All babies cry, (but) he never was a problem, from the day he was put on this Earth."
Our thoughts and prayers are with the student’s family and friends during this time of sadness posted the college on its official website. "Our hearts go out to Matthew Rein '13, who was killed (Saturday) in a house fire near the Albright College campus," posted Saint Joseph's High School in Metuchen on their Facebook page. He was recognized for his "perseverance and dedication" to the St.Joseph's as a senior according to his dad.
Reading Police are continuing their investigation. David Fein tells NJ.com that he was told by police that the fire is believed to be accidental.
