Officials at MetLife Stadium and AEG Live announced on Wednesday that McCartney will play a concert on Aug. 7 at the 82,500-seat stadium that is owned by the Giants and Jets of the NFL.

The concert is part of McCartney's "One on One" tour that has dates scheduled in the United States, Canada and Germany.

The 73-year-old former member of the Beatles hasn't played at the Meadowlands since 2002, when he appeared at the-then Continental Airlines Arena, now the Izod Center. McCartney played at Giants Stadium in 1990 and 1993. That stadium was demolished after the 2009 season.

Giants president and chief executive John Mara called McCartney one of the world's most influential artists. He remembers watching the Beatles as a 9-year-old on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1964.

"Just the thought of bringing him here to our stadium 52 years later is a pretty incredible concept to think about," Mara said.

Since opening in 2010, MetLife Stadium has been the home field for the Giants and Jets and played host to the Super Bowl, Wrestlemania and many of the world's top musicians.

"Even the young people today listen to the Beatles, and they listen to the words in the songs, and it brings out the same emotion it did 50 years ago," Jets chairman and chief executive Woody Johnson said.

Tickets prices will range from $19.50 to $275, Mark Shulman, a senior vice president with AEG Live said.
