Sir Paul McCartney was not only front and center this weekend when HBO broadcast his induction of Ringo Starr into the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame, it also came out this week that the legendary Beatle bassist is quitting marijuana for the sake of his children and grandchildren.

I don’t do it anymore,” McCartney told the Daily Mirror. “Why? The truth is I don’t really want to set an example to my kids and grandkids. It’s now a parenting thing.”

McCartney has five children -- daughters Stella, Heather, Mary, and Beatrice, a son, James, and eight grandchildren.

This is a man who’s been arrested numerous times for marijuana possession and actually spent time in a Tokyo jail over pot.  Why would Mccartney give up marijuana at a time when so many places are legalizing it, even if it is from a medical perspective?

This is a man who once defended marijuana use to his children saying it was less harmful than alcohol.

So what is Sir Paul doing in place of pot? “Instead of smoking a spliff, I’ll now have a glass of red wine or a nice margarita,” he said, adding, “The last time I smoked was a long time ago.”

Personally I think Paul should get back to where he once belonged. At a time when marijuana is much closer to legalization that it ever was, this is not the time for Paul to pull his endorsement. Would you have a problem telling your children that you smoke pot?

Also, if you were given the choice between marijuana and alcohol being equal, which would you choose?
