Thirty-eight-year-old Damenn Nelson of Passaic was charged with child endangerment, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and other drug-related charges after a traffic stop in Maywood on Tuesday afternoon.

Police initially arrested Nelson after learning he was wanted on a child support warrant. Officers then smelled marijuana in the vehicle, and soon found the drugs and a digital scale in the car seat that was being used by one of his four children, who were with him in the vehicle.

A telephone number for Nelson could not be located Wednesday, and authorities did not know if he had retained a lawyer.
