People hoping to get an early start on a weekend trip to the Shore ran into a wall of traffic on the Garden State Parkway in Monmouth County.

State Police spokesman Capt. Stephen Jones said a 1998 green Ford Explorer overturned in the right lane of the express lanes of the Parkway near Exit 109 in Middletown around 11 a.m. Friday.

One person was hospitalized and taken by ambulance to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, according to Jones who said there were no other injuries.

Delays quickly developed in both the local and express lanes just as the early push towards the beach was getting underway. The overturn was cleared away by noon according to New Jersey Fast Traffic's Pete Tauriello.
