New Jersey attempted to re-sign both but are facing financial issues that prevented them from signing both before today's 12noon signing deadine.

The Devils have an  $80 million debt due this summer which is hampering their contract talks.

The Devils now have to compete with other offers for them although Brodeur has said he would like to stay with New Jersey.

Also available: All-Star Ryan Suter from the Nashville Predators  is another other highly touted player available in free agency. Suter's agent said Saturday that the Nashville Predators will be in the mix to keep the defenseman.

Parise and Suter are both 27, potentially entering the prime of their careers.

Parise and Brodeur have only played for the Devils during their career;  Brodeur has played for the Devils since the 1991-92 season.
