EAST RUTHERFORD - It was the game of a lifetime for a retired, paralyzed New Jersey State Police officer and his girlfriend on Sunday.

Retired trooper Brian Malast and girlfriend Julie Herb were on the sidelines of MetLife Stadium before the Giants and Eagles game on Sunday. Surrounded by State Police who knew the real reason for the visit, Malast popped the question with the help of his longtime friend James Turner, who held the ring, according to NJ.com.

She said yes — the couple has not yet announced a date.

Malast was seriously injured in a car crash in the line of duty in 2005 and was paralyzed from the neck down and lives in Manchester under the care of a full time nurse, according to a GoFundMe page organized by Frank Rogers of the New Jersey State Troopers Non Commissioned Officers Association Foundation that raised more than $101,000 to buy him a customized van.

"Brian is a terrific person, a super trooper and a family friend. I worked with his father Bill for years and I knew Brian when he was on the job," Rogers said of Malast

His father Bill is a former lieutenant colonel with the State Police.
