Paralympic snowboarder Amy Purdy shocked fans when she announced she would be a contestant on Dancing with the Stars. Unlike other contestants, she faces another challenge along with being an amateur dancer. Purdy is a double amputee, and has leg prosthetics.

On the most recent episode of the show, the dancers had to perform a routine based on a significant year in their life. Purdy chose to dedicate her routine to her father, who donated a kidney to her in order to save her life. The dance depicts her struggles with beginning to walk again, until she finally regained enough strength to dance with her father.
