Overturned truck on Route 78 snarls Thanksgiving traffic

Just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday rush, an overturned tractor trailer on Route 78 is slowing the ride in Hunterdon County.

New Jersey State Police said the truck overturned into a guardrail at milepost 12 just after 1 p.m. in Union Township. The driver was taken via medical helicopter to a hospital.

Route 31 southbound was also slow for several miles  through Clinton approaching Route 78. New Jersey Fast Traffic's Bob Williams said there is no real good alternative route except for Route 57 or Interstate 80  to the north or Route 202 to the south.

Westbound traffic was backed up for several miles with a rubbernecking delay on the eastbound side.
