LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP — An overturned truck hauling garbage on Route 1 had an effect on two major roads early Tuesday morning

New Jersey State Police spokesman trooper Alejandro Goez said the truck overturned just before 5 a.m. on the ramp from Route 1 South to Route 95, shutting down the ramp, which reopened just before 3 p.m.

Two right lanes were also closed on Route 1 approaching the area, but traffic could get to Route 295 South, according to Goez, who said garbage also spilled out of the truck. Crews spent the morning commute securing and uprighting the truck so the garbage could be loaded back into the trailer.

"They had a lot of cleanup to take care of," Goez said. "They had the crash, fluids, fuel. The Department of Environmental Protection and the Department of Transportation were out there fixing guard rail damage."

Goez said the driver of the truck, Daniel Demico, 54, of South Orange was hospitalized for minor injuries.

No charges have yet been filed as the investigation is ongoing according to Goez.
