Only a test: Naval Weapons Station Earle conducts exercise on Thursday

COLTS NECK — Don't be alarmed by announcements and security personnel around the Naval Weapons Station Earle Thursday. It's only a test.

The base along Route 34 in Colts Neck is conducting a base-wide training exercise on Thursday that could cause extra traffic in and around the base's entrance on Route 34 in Colts Neck and the waterfront gate on Route 36 in Leonardo.

Base spokesman William Addison said the base public address system will make official announcements with the words "exercise, exercise, exercise" at the beginning and end.

The exercise is not in response to any particular threat and is designed to train installation security and emergency management personnel, officials said.
