One shot dead at Woodbridge’s Loop Inn motel

WOODBRIDGE — Police are investigating a fatal shooting at motel along Routes 1 and 9 Wednesday morning.

Shots were fired at the Loop Inn, on the southbound side of the highway at Rodgers Avenue in Avenel, around just before 5 a.m. according Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey

Carey said one man was pronounced dead at the motel at 5:36 a.m. while a second man was hospitalized at University Hospital in Newark and was in critical condition Wedtesdnay. Carey did not disclose a motive for the shooting or the identities of anyone involved.

Initial reports said the incident was an attempted robbery.

Helicopter footage showed police tape around the entrance to the hotel.

The Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office is investigating  the incident.
