We're coming off a beautiful weekend with more nice weather for Monday, although pockets of heavy rain are in the forecast for New Jersey on Tuesday.

Here are your weather headlines for Monday, April 13, 2015...

Another Nice Day, with a Few Hiccups

The dome of high pressure that brought us gorgeous weather on Sunday is moving out over the Atlantic. That will eventually spell changes in the form of clouds and rain (see below)... but for now, southerly winds on the back side of that high will keep our temperatures mild. Highs today should reach about 70° for most of the state. It will be a bit cooler in far North Jersey (mid 60s), and along the coast (about 60°).

There are two minor “hiccups” to talk about in today’s forecast. The first is a band of showers pushing eastward across Pennsylvania this morning, that could hold together to bring a few raindrops and a few clouds to New Jersey this morning. Anything that falls from the sky today will be very light... that is, if anything falls at all.

The second potential issue is the wind, which turned Saturday’s other beautiful weather into a pretty blustery day. Today’s winds shouldn’t climb much above 20 mph. But that’s still brisk enough to warrant a “breezy” description for the afternoon as a whole.

Rainy Tuesday

All good things must come to an end, and that obviously applies to this streak of pleasant weather too. Tuesday looks like a wet day overall, with some pockets of heavy rain and even some minor flooding possible.

Our first raindrops on Tuesday are expected in the northwest corner of the state sometime between midnight and sunrise. That rain will spread through the rest of the state through the rest of the morning. Current models show the heaviest rain to fall from mid-morning through early afternoon. Rain totals should end up in the 0.50" to 1.00" range - not a ton, but certainly healthy for a half-day of rain.

Even though the last few showers may linger in South Jersey Tuesday afternoon and evening, some of the state will start to clear by the late afternoon. That will help temperatures to remain mild, with near-normal lower to mid 60s anticipated.

Temperatures Stay Mild

Beyond Tuesday’s rain, we’ll clear to sunshine quickly, and both Wednesday and Thursday look like pleasant, dry days. Perhaps more importantly, temperatures look to stay consistent all week, in the seasonable 60s. (Average statewide highs for this week are 60° to 62°.)

The only other big issues for this week will be increased pollen levels due to the widespread spring bloom now in progress, and also elevated fire danger due to the wind and the mostly dry weather.

The next chance for rain will be Friday through Saturday morning, but that currently looks to be just a few showers. Our next chance for 70s could come next weakend, before another chance for rain late Sunday into Monday.
