MAMAKATING, N.Y. — A New Jersey woman is dead and another injured following a serious two-car accident on Route 17 in upstate New York.

According to New York State Police, Alekos Patentas, of Holmdel was driving westbound in the Town of Mamakating in Sullivan County when her 2015 BMW hit the back of a 2006 Western Star tractor-trailer operated by James Sisler, of Amsterdam.

Carrie Ann Ganely, 36, of the Bayville section of Berkeley, was a passenger in Patentas' BMV. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Patentas was flown to Westchester Medical Center and treated for head injuries.

Sisler, the operator of the tractor-trailer, was transported to Catskill Regional Medical Center and treated for minor injuries.

Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the accident. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident, or operation of the vehicles prior to the accident, should contact investigators at 845-292-6600.

State Police are being assisted in the investigation by the Sullivan County District Attorney's Office.
