One Dead, One Wounded in Franklin Township Shooting

Prosecutors say a man was fatally shot and a woman was critically wounded when gunfire erupted inside their northern New Jersey apartment.

It was not immediately clear what sparked the shootings at the Hempstead Gardens complex in Franklin Township. Somerset County authorities say the pair lived together in the apartment, but further details on their relationship were not disclosed.

Police went to the apartment around 11:35 a.m. Tuesday after receiving a report of shots fired there and found the 50-year-old man's body. They also found the 35-year-old woman, who had been shot once in the head.

The woman was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, but authorities would not provide further information on her condition.
