Were they stoned?

On the biggest marijuana day on the calendar, State Police made one of their biggest marijuana busts of the year.

And it all started about 1:15 p.m. Wednesday when one of the suspects was seen littering at the Thomas Edison Service Area of the New Jersey Turnpike, officials said.

Thang Van, 25, of Washington, D.C., and Tam Le, 29, of Lexington, Virginia, were charged with possession of marijuana, distribution of marijuana, and conspiracy to distribute after troopers said they found a duffle bag stuffed with about 50 pounds of marijuana in vacuumed bags inside their car.

Before the find, a trooper says he noticed marijuana in the center console of the car.

In a nod to the pothead holiday, State Police announced the bust on their Facebook page and added: "You celebrate ‪#‎Happy420‬ your way, and we'll celebrate our way."

The suspects were being held at the Middlesex County jail in lieu of $300,000 full bail.
