OLD BRIDGE — Thousands of people have turned out to welcome home Olympic medalist, U.S. gymnast Laurie Hernandez.

Hernandez's hometown of Old Bridge, New Jersey, staged an elaborate ceremony Saturday to honor her accomplishments.

The 16-year-old is a member of the United States' gold-medal women's gymnastics team. She also won an individual silver medal in the balance beam competition.

Hernandez took part in a motorcade that featured police, military members and gymnastics groups.

The event culminated with a ceremony at a school football field where residents packed the bleachers, many cheering and holding signs praising Hernandez's efforts.
