WILLINGBORO (AP) -- President Barack Obama's name will not replace John F. Kennedy's on a South Jersey town-owned building after all.

Willingboro's township council on Tuesday voted 5-0 to reverse its decision to rename the recreation center after an outcry from those opposed to the change, including alumni of the high school that once inhabited the building.

The building opened as a high school in 1966 and was named for the assassinated 35th president. It's now owned by township, used as a recreation center and undergoing renovations.

Councilman Nathaniel Anderson apologized to the crowd of 200 at the meeting. He said that he failed to think through the change.

Willingboro is a largely Democratic town that strongly supported Obama in the 2008 and 2012 elections.
