President Barack Obama's campaign is releasing a 17-minute documentary that portrays the president as a determined figure who confronted the economic downturn and handled a series of problems with tough decisions.

"The Road We've Traveled" was being released Thursday night at 300 screenings across the nation. The documentary describes Obama's first term, highlighting his decision to rescue the U.S. auto industry from collapse, begin rebuilding the economy, pass health care reform and authorize the raid that killed Osama bin Laden.

Republicans have dismissed the film, saying it's nothing more than a slick piece of propaganda that fails to give a full account of Obama's presidency.

The film is directed by Davis Guggenheim, whose credits include the Academy Award-winning, "An Inconvenient Truth," about Al Gore's global-warming campaign.
