Obama Believes He Would Win “Close” Election

President Barack Obama is telling campaign donors that if the election were held today, he thinks it would be close but that he'd win.

Obama also tells supporters at a fundraiser Monday evening in New York City that his opponents are, in his words, "spending like nobody's business" and that Democrats need substantial sums to counterpunch.

The president was holding court in the Parisian-style NoMad hotel in Manhattan's Flatiron District. Sixty people contributed $40,000 each, raising more than $2 million for the 2012 elections.

Obama is allowing that the economy is still rough enough for enough people that it's going to be a close election. He says that "continued headwinds" are likely, including the financial uncertainty in Europe.
