Bergen County prosecutors say the girl was with 34-year-old Miguel Hernandez of New Rochelle when he was stopped in Paramus. When the officer spoke with her, she made statements that "gave him concern for her well-being."

The teen later told detectives she had engaged in sexual activity for money and said Hernandez was her driver. But further investigation revealed Hernandez arranged the girl's sexual encounters and received some of the money she received.

Besides the human trafficking charge, Hernandez is also charged with promoting prostitution and child endangerment. He remained jailed Wednesday on $200,000 cash bail.

It wasn't known if Hernandez has retained an attorney.
