Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Guy Gregory tells The Jersey Journal that 47-year-old Daniel Plato-Jacobo of North Bergen was killed early Saturday after a confrontation in a North Bergen apartment building.

Officers had gone to the building after callers reported that Plato-Jacobo had a knife and had threatened to harm himself and others. They tried to subdue and disarm him, but Plato-Jacobo was shot in the chest when he lunged at the officers.

Plato-Jacobo died a short time later at a hospital.

The shooting remains under investigation by the prosecutor's office, which is standard policy in police-involved shootings.
