The New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association's executive committee on Wednesday vacated the title won by North Bergen High School over Montclair amid allegations of recruiting violations. The North 1, Group 4 title will remain vacant.

North Bergen defeated favored Montclair with a last-play pass in December.

NJSIAA executive committee member Bill Vacca tells The Record newspaper the association needs to send a message that "recruiting needs to be stopped."

The last time the NJSIAA stripped a school of a football title was in 1995 when Mainland Regional in Linwood forfeited a sectional title for using an ineligible player.
