Precipitation began as rain for central and southern counties as temperatures climbed above the freezing mark. But the rain/snow line creeped further to the south making for a tough commute for many in central and northern New Jersey .

NJ Transit has cancelled service for the rest of Friday night on the Morris & Essex, Montclair-Boonton and Gladstone lines due to rapidly deteriorating weather conditions. All bus routes north of Interstate 195 are suspended as of 8 p.m.

There was also a lull in the storm with no precipitation falling in many areas to the west and south.

As the storm continues to intensify, it will bring in cold air and precipitation for everyone with several hours of intense snow falling at a rate of 1-2 inches per hour before ending on Saturday morning according to an advisory from the National Weather Service.

Gov. Chris Christie is urging New Jerseyans to stay off the roads as the nor'easter  creates challenging conditions on roadways .

Christie says the state's emergency operation center was activated this morning and that transportation agencies are fully mobilized. He says 3,000 salt trucks "are ready to roll."

Christie is advising residents to "be smart and be careful, and if you can be off the roads that will be even more helpful."

JCP+L says they are well staffed for the storm with 4200 employees standing by including 770 line workers, 500 hazard responders, 480 forestry workers and 600 support personnel according to a press release.  JCP+L President Don Lynch in a press conference declared, "“We’ve made significant improvements since Sandy. We’re ready for whatever this storm brings" according to the Daily Record.

The storm will also bring gusty winds of at least 40 MPH inland and 55 MPH along the coast where a Coastal Flood Warning has been issued for the possibility for moderate to major coastal flooding.  The most significant impact will be at the sunrise high tide on Saturday morning with 5-7' tides and significant wave action contributing to moderate to major beach erosion.

Brick Township has issued a voluntary evacuation order for areas that are still recovering from Sandy. Residents can park in most township owned parking lots (except  the parking lot at the municipal building located at 401 Chambersbridge Road) and any township school parking lot after 4:00 P.M. These lots will be patrolled by police throughout the storm.
