No Verdict Yet in NJ Baby’s Parkway Bridge Death
Jurors in in the murder trial of a man accused of throwing his infant daughter off a New Jersey bridge have ended their second day of deliberations without reaching a verdict.
Shamsidden Abdur-Raheem is charged in the death of 3-month-old Zara Malani-Lin Abdur-Raheem.
Prosecutors say Abdur-Raheem abducted his daughter from her maternal grandmother's East Orange apartment in February 2010, assaulting the woman and hitting her with his van. They say he then parked on the Driscoll Bridge on the Garden State Parkway and threw or dropped the baby into the Raritan River.
The girl's mother had sole custody and left her in her mother's care while she sought a restraining order against Abdur-Raheem. The baby's body was found several weeks later along the riverbank by passersby.
Deliberations will resume Thursday.
