For the second year in a row, a Hackettstown-based roofing company is participating in the national "No Roof Left Behind" initiative, which is designed for local contractors to give away a free new roof to a deserving family in their service area.

Last year, Jeff Alte Jr. Roofing received two dozen nominations, some from friends or neighbors of residents who'd fallen on hard times. That field was then narrowed down to four finalists.

"Sometimes they're the type of people who always are giving to everyone else, but put themselves and maybe their home last," said Kathy Muscat, office manager for Alte Roofing. "It was actually hard for the committee to choose the four finalists. It was very difficult. We had a lot that kind of pulled at our heartstrings."

Alte Roofing's 2015 program centered on Warren and Hunterdon counties. This year, homeowners in Warren, Morris and Sussex counties will be eligible, and the nomination deadline is May 31. Once finalists are chosen, a public voting period will run from July 15 to Aug. 15, with the winner announced on Aug. 22 and installation slated for sometime in September or October.

The only other New Jersey contractor involved in the 2016 edition of the program is M. Rosenblatt, which serves Camden County and has already chosen a winner in Cherry Hill.

Eligibility requirements for No Roof Left Behind include proof of home ownership and being up-to-date on mortgage payments, for insurance purposes. For more information, click here.
