It was not immediately clear what caused Tuesday's fire at the Shefah Hotel in Union City, but no injuries were reported. Investigators tell The Jersey Journal that the fire apparently started on the second floor of the three-story building. It was reported around 1:20 p.m. and was brought under control about 45 minutes later.

Officials say at least 15 people who had been staying at the hotel were temporarily relocated to a nearby middle school. It was not immediately known when they would be allowed to return to the building to claim their possessions.
