NJ’s Red Light Camera Reform Bill Stalls

Assembly Transportation Committee Chairman John Wisniewski made the decision after a hearing held Monday, where witnesses said some of the proposed reforms go against law enforcement policies.

Officers said a provision that would bar them from issuing citations to drivers who make "rolling" right on red turns at intersections with the cameras would take away their discretion to issue tickets.

The bill also would increase the duration of some yellow lights based on a formula by a national highway research program. But traffic engineers testified that the standards should be made by the transportation department.
